Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
